Performance Expectations
In the spirit of ‘Each can serve’, each member contributes to efficiency and enjoyment of rehearsals.
• Students are required to arrive 10 minutes before the rehearsal time for set up and tune up so that they can be ready to “play” at the starting time.
• Instruments are not taken out of their case until the student has a chair and music stand organized and the music on the stand (to avoid damage to the instrument).
• At the end of rehearsals, students should put their instruments and music away first, followed by their music stand and chair. This should be done quickly and neatly. If a “tidy up” roster has been organized, students will take turns to put stands and chairs away without complaint.
Each students are expected to be an active member of the ensemble community:
• To attend all scheduled rehearsals. Missing more than 2 rehearsals in any term will result in not being able to participate in performances unless special permission is given by the conductor.
• To provide a note to the conductor regarding absences: a note in advance with a reasonable explanation when they are unable to attend, or a note afterwards for absence due to sickness or some unexpected incidents.
• To be respectful of the authority of conductors and parent supervisors.
• To listen to the conductor and avoid talking, particularly “talking over” the conductor.
• To avoid playing their instrument inappropriately, particularly when the conductor or other adults are speaking.
• To be respectful of their own equipment and instrument as well as that of other students (including drum kit which is only to be played by the designated drummers).
• To practise their ensemble music at home, until fluent.
• Seek help from his/her tutor if there is any difficulty in music.
