End of year Concert - Online
Thank you to all of our members who keep practicing at home through the online rehearsals, we will collaborate to put your videos together into a Virtual Concert and post it at the end of the term.
We are encouraging all of the ensemble members to participate in this concert, if there are not enough videos then the virtual concert will not be successful. Please keep practicing your part with the backing tracks provided by the conductors and upload your best video by the due date on 10th Dec 2021. All the backing tracks are on our website download page, please login to your account to access them.
2022 Ensemble Enrolment - Early Bird Discount
We will begin enrolments for 2022 on 6th December for our current members. An earlybird discount will be available till the end of term 4. This will help our conductors to plan their program in the holidays if we have a good indication of numbers for 2022 so we strongly encourage you to enrol early.
Conductor Update
Mr. Julian Gonzalez will relocate to Bega to pursue his music career, we are sad to hear that and we wish Mr Gonzalez all the best with his new endeavours.
In 2022, we are fortunate to invite Ms Peddy Liu on board to conduct the String Ensemble and Mini String will be conducted by Ms Fiona Caldarevic.
Music Committee Management Update
Thank you so much to Lin Fu and Suzanna O’Chee who have stepped up to take on the coordinator roles as follows:
- Coordinator for Concert Band (Suzanna O’Chee, Term 1 and 2 only)
- Coordinator for Percussion Ensemble (Suzanna O’Chee, Term 3 and 4, there will be no percussion ensemble in terms 1 and 2)
- Coordinator for String Orchestra (Lin Fu)
- Coordinator for String Ensemble (Lin Fu)

Rehearsals Online
Strings Ensemble and Mini Strings rehearsals online videos have been uploaded since week 3. We would like to give some guidance on what students can work on at home in hope to keep everyone ready for a possible performance later on this year.
Students can log in to our website to download their sheet music and follow the conductor videos on what to practice. We will be releasing more videos as the term progresses. Similar to the lockdown of 2020, we are planning to put our student videos together into a Virtual Concert for the music community to enjoy close to the beginning of term 4.
So please encourage the children to :
- log in to the website
- download the sheet music
- follow the conductor’s videos
- practice and upload for feedback
For Orchestra members, please check your emails for instructions for preparing two pieces for uploading for the virtual concert.
For Band members, please also log in and follow the guidance provided by the conductor. Tony has recorded the group at the end of Term 2 and this performance will also be uploaded to the Virtual Concert in Term 4.

include improved memory, discipline, self-confidence, and even reading and
verbal skills.

Music News 2021 Term 2 Week 8
It
is wonderful to note that we have secured a few external performance
opportunities for our ensembles!
The
Concert Band will be performing at the Ryde East Band Festival on 15th August
at Ryde East Public School. Every concert band member has committed to
performing on the day and we are so glad of the enthusiasm from the group and
looking forward to seeing the band represent Eastwood Public School on the day!
The
String Ensemble will be participating in the Australian School Band and
Orchestra Festival. This festival had been a live event in the past but due to
the situation with Covid, they have now offered an online video submission. Our
String Ensemble is now busily preparing for the recording and we look forward
to seeing them represent the school online!
The
String Orchestra will be representing the school at the Ryde Eisteddfod on the
27th July and at the Arts Unit Festival of Instrumental Music (FOIM) on the 9th
September. They are busily memorising the pieces for
FOIM as they will be performing at the Sydney Town Hall with a number of
different schools.
We
are hoping more and more performance opportunities will arise in the second
half of 2021 so that our musicians can perform to audiences again.

Music News 2021 Term 2 Week 6
It is hard to believe we are more than halfway through Term 2! And
all our ensembles are having fun and working hard to prepare for our Mid Year concert on the 24th June!
It is
extremely important that parents pass on the rehearsal notes from the
conductors each week and remind your children to read and follow them for home
practice. The conductor’s job is to teach the children how to play together as
a team, not to teach individual students how to play their own part.
If
your child needs additional support in following the rehearsal notes each week,
please take these to your private music tutor to help them.
